Q&A

Question: How many cable tracing modes does 8209 have? What are they?
Answer: There are three modes in total, anti-interference mode, PoE mode, and ordinary mode.

Question: How does the NF-8209 identify the breakpoint of a network cable?
Answer: The breakpoint is located by testing the length of the cable, and displayed in pairs. For example, there is a 50 meter network cable, and the No.2 pin has a breakpoint at 20 meters, then the NF-8209 will display open circuit 20 meters for No. 2 pin and other pins will display 50 meters, you can judge that the No.2 pin is broken at the position of 20 meters.

Question: Can it be used to tone trace cat5 inside walls? how far away from the toned cable will the receiver still be able pick up the signal?
Answer: No you can not trace cables in walls behind sheet rock. The tracing level appears to be low level. The receiver probe tip needs to be close to the cable jacket and on long cables, 30 feet, actually touching the cable jacket.

Question: The sound of the probe is low?
Answer: The 8209 has a number of functions and that will make it consume power quickly during use, so we deliberately reduce the sound without affecting the usage, so as to prolong the continuous use time.

Question: Why does the NF-8209 display all 1 - 8 pins short-circuited when doing a wire map test on a cable connected to a switch?
Answer: This is normal. All of Noyafa products with a screen will display a short circuit when they test a cable directly connected to a switch because of a loop which is formed directly with the switch. The result of all short circuit indicates that the cable has no issue, and if the cable has a breakpoint the NF-8209 will display there is a breakpoint.

Question: What is the range of the NF-8209 to measure the length of the network cable? Why?
Answer: The length range is 3-500 meters. The principle of 8209 length measurement is to send a pulse signal to the network cable, and the wavelength of one signal is 0.8 meters, and at least 3 wavelengths can be used to measure the length, so it is 2.4 meters. In order to facilitate the understanding of ordinary users, it is called 3 meters. The maximum 500 meters is also determined by the working principle.

Question: There is a big error when using the NF-8209 to measure a cable’s length, why?
Answer: The NF-8209 only measures the length of the network cable, not work for other types of cables. If you do test a network cable please check if it is qualified. Moreover, The length measuring accuracy of the NF-8209 is +/-3% or 3 meters (whichever is greater), the measurement is qualified within this range.

Question: Can it be used to tone trace cat5 inside walls? how far away from the toned cable will the receiver still be able pick up the signal?
Answer:No you can not trace cables in walls behind sheet rock. The tracing level appears to be low level. The receiver probe tip needs to be close to the cable jacket and on long cables, 30 feet, actually touching the cable jacket.
